Our goal

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. Job Elf is new and hasn't had an independent accessibility audit yet, so we can't say it meets every requirement today. Below is what the site does now, and what we know still needs work.

What the site does

Captions and transcripts

Candidates can type what they say in their 15-second intro. That text becomes captions on the video and appears as a transcript on their profile.

Videos wait for you

Intros never play on their own. A video starts only when you press play, and there's a Stop button while it plays.

Keyboard access

Pages with the main menu start with a "Skip to content" link. Links, buttons and form fields can be reached with the Tab key, and search suggestions work with the arrow keys and Escape.

Visible focus

Whatever you have selected with the keyboard shows a clear outline or ring.

Clear labels

Form fields have labels that screen readers announce. On sign-up, profile and job forms, the label sits above the field, not inside it. Errors are written out in words under the field, so they don't rely on color.

Screen readers

Pages use headings and landmarks. Icon buttons have text labels, and candidate photos have text descriptions.

Small screens and zoom

Pages are built to work at phone width and when you zoom in.

Known gaps

We know about these and are working on them.

• Transcripts are optional, so some intro videos have no captions. A candidate's experience, skills and résumé are always available as text.
• Cropping a photo needs a mouse or a touch screen. You can choose "Skip cropping" and upload the photo as it is.
• Recording an intro in the browser needs a camera. You can upload a video you recorded elsewhere instead.
